“Trix are for kids.” “They’re magically delicious.” “Snap, Crackle and Pop.” Each one of those phrases conjures up an image of a wacky colored cereal character and reminds you of a time forgotten.
While some of the catch phrases have remained the same, the characters have undergone face lifts and wardrobe changes and, still others, disappeared all together.
It’s interesting that there was actually a time that I wanted to get up really early on Saturday mornings. I’d pry open that new box of cereal and dig a hand along the edge to try and fish out any prize that I may have won. Who knows what magical toy awaited me inside of those four sugary walls? A favorite cereal was always a loyal friend to accompany the early Saturday morning cartoons. The cereal characters became well-known villains and heroes in their very own cartoon commercials. Winning a secret decoder ring was just an added bonus to the morning.
“Just Add Milk” sums up those mornings of our youth.
I believe cereal to be one of the most brilliant inventions of our century, along with the fax machine and the internet. It’s ingenious---all you have to do is add milk.
