I wanted to create a piece that completely captured the innocence of the 50's & 60's through the images and the colors. This was a time when a redheaded puppet, Howdy Doody, was enough to capture a TV audience--now it seems we need to see someone eat bugs or get in a car chase. Movie popcorn was about 25cents versus today's $5.00. The colorful tin toys that were exciting then would put today's high tech child to sleep, because they didn't possess sound or special effects.
Remember when television used to actually end late at night and go off the air with the black and white Indian test pattern? Well, no more. Now you can buy a George Foreman grill at 3 a.m. or watch a "motivational" investor tell you how to make millions after they receive your $300.00. Wouldn't we prefer a puppet over those options? Let's face it; things will never be the same again which is why I titled this "Those Were the Days."
